Many men have spent countless years wondering why they have never been invited or solicited to join the Masonic Fraternity. Consequently, they have never experienced first-hand the feeling of comraderie and Brotherly love that unites the Masonic Fraternity into one band of Brothers all endeavoring to make their communities a better place. The only way that a man can become a Mason is to seek membership in a Lodge; it's that simple and it's certainly no secret.
The inherent qualifications neccessary to becoming a Mason in South Carolina can be summed up in the following single sentence.
The petitioner must be a literate, moral man of majority age who freely professes a belief in God, has resided in the state of South Carolina for one continuous year, is willing to assume an obligation to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States and has never been involved in a forceful act attempting to overthrow our government.
It can be plainly observed that there is no mention of political persuasion, specific religious beliefs, occupation or social standing. The Masonic Fraternity welcomes men from all walks of life.
